Restored fragments of the Gongur mosaics will be displayed in the exposition of ancient artifacts of the Museum of fine art of Turkmenistan.

In the course of several years in the shop of restoration of this museum workers of the state research institute of restoration of the Ministry of Culture of Russia Natalya Kovalyeva and Galina Veresotskaya from Moscow work here. On the initiative of the outstanding archaeologist, honoured member of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan Viktor Sariandi they restore wall mosaic paintings with elements of painting unearthed in the course of excavations of royal burial of Gongur on the delta of the Murgab River. The discoverer of the country of Margush V.I. Sariandi till the last days of his life headed the Margianaian expedition which is a joint project of the Nation Union of Turkmenistan for Protection, Research and Restoration of Monuments of History and Culture and Institute of Anthropology and Ethnology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Ten years ago this expedition discovered a royal necropolis in the territory of Gongurdepe. The most wonderful and amazing findings of items of ancient masters –geometric and compositional mosaic works are connected with its underground mausoleums. This technique has not been encountered earlier not only at the monuments of southern regions of Central Asia but also in such centers of first civilizations as Egypt, Mesopotamia or China. Front walls of all mausoleums in the royal necropolis of Gongur were decorated with multifigured compositions part of which was preserved in spite of the fact that since the time of their creation three thousand years have passed. A large part of this composition was painting and separate elements were executed in the technique of mosaics. According to the present head of the expedition, N.A. Dubova, doctor of historical sciences, in none of premises of the monumental palace of northern Gongur such mosaic compositions were not discovered and it speaks of the fact that the rich ornaments of after world inhabitants of Gongur kings-priests were considered more important than their lifetime among inhabitants.

Now with the efforts of many restorers and other specialists the techniques of creation of such mosaics are studied. As it has happened, in its execution many various methods were applied. Probably, artists and mosaic masters has a common picture composition or at least, its separate elements. The fact that stone pieces of definite sizes were made b y masters, stone cutters in a large quantity, also attests to it. Masters skillfully chose them by stone texture, tins from white to grey, yellow and then where it was necessary hey draw liens of pictures between inserts placed in location.
