At the International Scientific and Practical Conference «Environmental Aspects of Implementing Innovative Technologies in the Development of Hydrocarbon Fields» TESC 2025, SPE Regional Director for Russia and the Caspian Region Alexey Borisenko spoke about the activities of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

He emphasised the important role of this international non-profit professional organisation of oil and gas industry specialists in solving global challenges in the energy industry.

SPE promotes technological development, personnel development and the adaptation of innovations, and also sets as its main goal the accumulation and dissemination of knowledge in the field of oil exploration and production, including related technologies. SPE offices are located in Moscow, Dallas, Houston, London, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur.

The society acts as a catalyst for the exchange of knowledge and experience, organizing seminars, conferences and various events. Particular attention is paid to environmental issues, including methods for capturing and detecting methane and carbon dioxide leaks, as well as the implementation of emission reduction technologies.  Professionals have access to certification programs and an extensive system of publications and research covering issues of sustainable development of the energy industry.

The SPE professional section in Ashgabat has about 50 people, and the student section has about 30-40 people, which together makes up almost 100 active SPE participants in Turkmenistan. Such representation gives professionals and students unique opportunities for professional growth, knowledge exchange, participation in global initiatives and the formation of valuable connections within the international energy industry.

As Alexey Borisenko noted, the TESC 2025 conference became an excellent platform for networking. The invited parties were able to speak to members of the SPE professional section in Ashgabat, representatives of the Student Section of the International University of Oil and Gas named after Yagshygeldi Kakayev, as well as colleagues from near and far abroad.

Major upcoming SPE events in the region include the Ashgabat Oil and Gas Conference in October and the Caspian Conference in Baku, which will also feature local work.
