Turkmenistan’s athletes won 7 medals — two gold, two silver, and three bronze — on the first day of the 10th Central Asian WKF Karate Championship, which started in Bishkek.

The competition brought together 609 athletes from five countries, competing for medals among cadets, juniors, and adults in the disciplines of kata (demonstration of formal exercises) and kumite (fighting matches).

According to the Turkmenistan Karatedo Federation, Kyrgyzstan, as the host country, fielded 238 karate athletes; Kazakhstan — 218; Uzbekistan — 112; Tajikistan — 5; and Turkmenistan’s team was represented by 36 athletes.

On the first day of the championship, our compatriots won medals in kata.

Gold medals were won by Abdyresul Klychev, a 5th-grade student of secondary school No. 11 in Bayramaly etrap of Mary velayat (boys under 12, coach S. Mukhammetnazarov), and Allanur Yalkabov, a 10th-grade student of specialized secondary school No. 52 in Ashgabat (juniors under 17, coach B. Yalkabov).

Silver medals were awarded to Ovezmyrat Sapadurdyyev, a 7th-grade student of the 1st specialized secondary school in Gokdepe etrap of Ahal velayat (boys under 14, coach S. Setdarov), and Davut Saryev, an 11th-grade student of secondary school No. 55 in Ashgabat (juniors under 17, coach B. Yalkabov). The latter, according to WKF regulations, was also allowed to compete among adult athletes (over 18 years old), where he additionally won a bronze medal.

Bronze medalists also included Muhammetresul Hairullaev, a 6th-grade student of specialized secondary school No. 18 in Bayramaly city, Mary velayat (boys under 14, coach S. Mukhammetnazarov), and Rasul Atajanov, a 2nd-year student of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan (adults, coach B. Yalkabov).
