Potato harvesting is actively underway in the northern region of the country. Timely agrotechnical measures for planting and caring for the crop allowed us to grow a good harvest on 8,800 hectares of land.
It is based on such common local potato varieties as "Santa", "Dostum", "Gala" and others. All of them are distinguished by good taste, high yield, resistance to various diseases, suitability for long-term storage and transportation. In addition, their ripening periods are acceptable for local weather and climate conditions.
The high rate of harvesting is maintained in the Shavat etrap, where about 17 thousand tons of tubers have already been harvested to date. This etrap, along with the Akdepe etrap, is the largest producer of potatoes in the region.
In general, farmers in the velayat intend to harvest at least 140 centners of the crop from each hectare.
Farmers of the Dashoguz velayat, who have successfully mastered the mass production of potatoes in a relatively short period of time, are consistently improving the technologies for its cultivation and storage. Specialists from the Turkmen Agricultural Institute, located in the city of Dashoguz, are also striving to make their scientific contribution to the search for optimal ways of cultivating the crop.
