At the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Turkmenistan initiated the declaration of 2028 as the Year of International Law, intended to become an important step in strengthening the international legal foundations of peace and cooperation. The proposal was announced by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during his speech at the anniversary session.
Explaining the significance of the proposed initiative, the head of state noted that Turkmenistan will continue to consistently advocate for strengthening the central role of the United Nations in international affairs.
“We consider the key factor to be the strengthening of the rule of international law, the improvement of the international normative framework, and the enhancement of the effectiveness of the implementation of conventions, treaties, agreements, and other multilateral UN documents,” emphasized the head of Turkmenistan.
The President of the country also stated that the UN is the only international organization possessing universal legitimacy and that it must remain the guarantor of peace and development, the framework of security and stability of the global architecture.
