The EU Delegation to Turkmenistan Promotes Professional Development for Media Specialists

A series of workshops dedicated to modern content production and the use of advanced digital tools, including artificial intelligence, in editorial and creative work was held at the training center of Bouygues Turkmen in Ashgabat from April 29 to May 6.

The events, organized with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the European Union, and the CARAVAN media project, became an important educational platform for journalists, teachers, and students of specialized universities.

Opening the series of meetings, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Turkmenistan Maciej Madalinski noted:

“The European Union highly values its relations with Turkmenistan and the countries of Central Asia. Our regional strategy includes an important information component. As part of our foreign policy, we actively promote media literacy and support the development of a balanced media environment.”

According to Mr. Madalinski, artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the ways information is created and distributed today. Social media algorithms determine audience reach, while the boundaries between professional journalism and citizen-generated content are becoming increasingly blurred. This creates not only new opportunities but also places special responsibility on content creators. The training program was specifically designed to address these challenges.

The workshops were conducted by experts from Kazakhstan — Gulim Amirkhanova and Aiganym Amirbekova — who possess extensive professional experience. This series of sessions became the second phase of the CARAVAN media project’s activities in Ashgabat. It should be recalled that in the autumn of 2025, the project also held a workshop there devoted to the integration of AI and the fundamentals of media literacy.
