Turkish Cuisine Week Launched in Ashgabat

A ceremonial reception dedicated to Turkish Cuisine Week, traditionally held from May 21 to 27, took place at the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Ashgabat. The event was attended by representatives of Turkmenistan’s government agencies, the diplomatic corps, public organizations, and the media.

Turkish cuisine is renowned for its boundless variety, ranging from a rich selection of soups, meat and fish dishes to fresh vegetable salads, stews, and exquisite pastries. The international project “Turkish Cuisine Week” aims to introduce broad audiences around the world to this unique gastronomic culture.

Addressing the guests, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Türkiye to Turkmenistan Ahmet Demirok noted that the project was launched under the patronage of the First Lady of the Republic of Türkiye, Emine Erdoğan, to promote the country’s national gastronomy on the global stage. The cornerstone of this initiative became the book “Turkish Cuisine: Timeless Recipes,” published under her editorship. This work highlights the waste-free, environmentally friendly, and sustainable nature of Türkiye’s culinary heritage.

Drawing historical parallels, the diplomat reminded attendees that the food cultures of the Turkish and Turkmen peoples share many common features.

“Like Turkmen cuisine, Turkish cuisine has roots stretching deep into antiquity — it was shaped at the crossroads of civilizations. Today, it rightfully ranks among the world’s leading gastronomic cultures. Every region of Türkiye offers its own unique culinary identity based on local ingredients,” the diplomat emphasized.

Ahmet Demirok also placed special emphasis on the fact that the culinary traditions of Türkiye and brotherly Turkmenistan are founded on the values of unity and profound solidarity.

“The Turkish dining table is a sacred space where families gather, and anyone who comes is not merely a guest, but a ‘Guest from God.’ The dostarkhan unites people of all ages, serving as a powerful instrument of social harmony and mutual respect. Our generous hospitality reflects sincere warmth and a desire for unity,” the head of the diplomatic mission concluded.
