Today, in accordance with the Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan “On holding of complete census of the population and housing resources of Turkmenistan for 2012”, it was started its first stage. It was started census of the population, living in remote settlements difficult of access and regions of distant livestock farming, which will continue until September 24, 2012. Major stage of complete census of the population will be held from December 15 to 26, 2012.

Census will be conducted in 365 populated areas of remote settlements difficult of access and regions of distant livestock farming located in 28 etraps of all provinces of the country. Besides employees of statistics bodies, copyists from number of teachers, medical personnel, representatives of etrap municipalities, gengeshliks and other categories of population have been got involved in this work.

For supply of work with cartographic material in electronic type and putting on electronic map of essential statistic information, quality of introduced data, State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan will use GIS-technologies (Geographic Information System), being applied in the international practice.

The current census is held within the framework of decision of the United Nations Organization on conduction of census of the population and housing resources in the UN member-countries within 2005-2014.
