III meeting of the Trade Unions of Turkmenistan

The III meeting of the Trade Unions of Turkmenistan taken place in Ashgabat summed up the results of work of this large public organization and set the key tasks and trends of work for the future.

Today, fourteen sectoral, five velayat, forty nine etrap and nine municipal

Organizations of the country are affiliated to the Trade Unions Organisation. This largest in the county public organization numbers over one million citizens of Turkmenistan.

The meeting brought together over 500 active members of the trade unions movement of the country. The cabinet ministers, deputies of the Mejlis, heads and representatives of public organizations and creative unions, a number of ministries and departments, the Academy of Sciences, higher educational institutions as well as journalists, labour veterans and youth attended the solemn ceremony of opening the meeting.

In their reports, the National Centre of Trade Unions and the Central Trade Unions Auditing Committee summed the work and defined the tasks and goals for the next five years. The work on protection of interests and legitimate rights of citizens as well as creation of favourable conditions for their work was specified as a key sphere.

The forum agenda focused on a number of important organizational issues, including amendments to the Trade Unions Charter and the Regulations on the auditing commission as well as election of new membership of the National Trade Unions Centre and Auditing Commission. The members of the trade union organizations from all regions of the country covered the main points of the agenda.

The Resolution of the III meeting of the Trade Unions of Turkmenistan defining the strategy for further work of the public organization and the Programme of work of the trade unions of Turkmenistan for 2012-2017 were unanimously adopted by the meeting participants. T. Muhammedova was elected the Chairperson of the National Centre of Trade Unions of Turkmenistan. The delegates unanimously approved the amendments to the Charter of the organization and considered a number of other organizational issues.
