A regional meeting focused on the draft Agreement on preservation and efficient use of the biological resources of the Caspian Sea started on the Turkmen capital.

The meeting brought together the heads and key specialists of the core ministries and departments, including fishing industry, nature management and environmental protection agencies and other governmental institutions of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan. This year, this is the second meeting of experts, whose task is to draft an Agreement on preservation and efficient use of the biological resources of the Caspian Sea aimed at creating an efficient mechanism for cooperation between the Caspian states in this sphere.

During the meeting the experts exchanged their views and put forward initiatives aimed at the further coordination of positions in all related issues. The systematic monitoring of the state of biological resources and marine environment of the Caspian Sea, organization of a complex of scientific researches in this sphere and environmental education of the population were specified among the urgent tasks.
