Central Commission for Election and Referenda holds a meeting

The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan held a regular meeting to sum up the work done this year. The members of the Central Commission for Election and Referenda reported on the work carried out in velayats and Ashgabat in line with the 2012 working plan.

In their reports the meeting participants noted that this year was rich in election campaigns. As is known, the presidential elections took place in the country on February 12, 2012 and elections to Gengesh and members of the national parliament in two constituencies were held on August 20, 2012.

The election of the President of Turkmenistan was held on February 12, 2012 in a free and democratic atmosphere in compliance with the current election law of Turkmenistan and international law. 96.7 percent of voters cast their votes. That vividly testifies to the high civil activity of the Turkmen citizens. The elections to Gengesh and members of the national parliament in two constituencies took place in all regions of the country in an atmosphere of openness, transparency and on a wide alternative basis. 90 percent of voters took part in the elections of Gengesh members and national parliamentarians.

The meeting participants approved the 2012 report and discussed the plan of events for 2013. Other organizational issues were discussed during the meeting.
