The theme of the Tempus Information Day which was held in the assembly hall of the Turkmen State Institute of Transport and Communication was the possibilities for enhancing fruitful cooperation in the education sector and the active dialogue between higher educational institutions under the European Union’s Tempus-funded programmes.
The meeting organized by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency of the European Commission (EACEA) and the Country Tempus Office in Turkmenistan brought together the representatives of Turkmen higher educational institutions, embassies of EU member states accredited to Turkmenistan and international organisations.
As is known, promoting wide international partnership is a key aspect of the education reform implemented in the country on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Priority in this process is given to the study of best international practices, invitation of education professionals from the leading higher educational institutions all over the world to work in our country, regular student exchanges, establishment of contacts between research centres and institutions of higher education, introduction of innovative training methods including multimedia and information technologies. Contacts established between higher educational institutions in Turkmenistan and European countries under the Euroepna Union’s Tempus-funded programme and over a dozen of the ongoing joint projects facilitate to a larger extent fulfilling the tasks assigned.
The detailed information on the Tempus programme which supports the modernization of higher education in the partner countries mainly through university cooperation projects was provided to meeting participants. The project coordinators made the presentations on the procedure for applying to the programmes, selection criteria and national priorities for participation.
The presentation of a new Erasmus Mundus project took place during the meeting. Its main goal is to promote teacher professional development, enhance the quality in education, study and introduce European practices, new methods and technologies in the learning process. The project provides grants to students willing to continue education at magistracy in European countries and teachers willing to undertake postgraduate and doctoral study. Also, the project coordinators informed of an opportunity to attend training courses at leading higher educational institutions in Europe and invite European experts to Turkmenistan with the view of exchanging experiences.
