Turkmenistan passes on to the twelve-year secondary education in comprehensive secondary schools. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a series of relevant documents at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held today.
So, according to the Decree of the head of state “On improvement of the education system in Turkmenistan”, transfer to the twelve-year secondary education in the comprehensive schools of the country will be realized starting from 2013-2014 school year. Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan jointly with the Ministry of Justice of Turkmenistan was charged to prepare the relevant proposals on making essential amendments and supplements in the legislation and submit them in the Cabinet of Ministers. Control over fulfillment of this decision was entrusted by the head of state to the vice-chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan S. Toyliyev and Minister of Education G. Mammedova.
By special Resolution “On issues of providing general secondary education in Turkmenistan”, the President of Turkmenistan approved a Concept of transfer to the twelve-year general secondary education. Within its framework, it was ordered to prepare relevant curricula and programs, textbooks and teaching aids. It will be provided the education on the twelve-year program during eleven years for pupils, who were admitted to the secondary school in the period of 2004-2005 – 2012-2013 school years as well as pupils, being admitted from seven years old to the secondary school in 2013-2014 school year.
Education in the secondary school will start from six-year age. Primary education will be fulfilled from the 1st to 4th forms; basic secondary education will involve the pupils of 5-10 forms, and pupils of 11-12 forms, who will also have an opportunity of selection of education on trends they are interested in, will get general secondary education.
As it was noted, these decisions were made with a view of further improvement of the education system, gaining higher results in training of qualified specialists, who will be able to use modern innovative technologies.
