Festive forum to mark remarkable date

The international conference entitled “The 20th Anniversary of Independence of Turkmenistan: Along the Path of Humanism and Justice” was conducted in the conference hall of the Ministry of Justice in the Turkmen capital. The forum was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan and the Galkynys National Movement.

The conference dedicated to the main national holiday marked by the 20th anniversary of independence brought together deputies of the Parliament, representatives of diplomatic missions accredited to our country, the representative offices of the UN agencies, OSCE and other authoritative international agencies, the public organisations of the Galkynysh National Movement, specialists of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Institute of State and Law under the President of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, Turkmen ministries and departments, teachers and students of higher educational institutions and journalists.

Addressing forum participants, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that “the principles of humanism and justice based on the rich national historical and cultural traditions of the Turkmen state and universal values are the solid foundation for genuine democracy in our society, protection and promotion of human rights. They underlie the principle “a state for the people” which reflects the concepts proclaiming the deep respect for justice and human rights, human life value and an individual and serving as the unshakable basis of our political strategy.”

The forum agenda focused on the accomplishments the Turkmen state had achieved since gaining independence which was marked by the fundamental changes of crucial significance for the state and society.

The reports presented the panorama of Turkmenistan’s achievements at the present historical stage. Independence became the starting point of the modern history of the Turkmen state and laid the foundation for new outstanding achievements on the path of progressive development of the Turkmen people in the epoch of new Revival and great reforms.

Expressing unanimous support for the policy initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, forum participants emphasized that due to the well thought-out and balanced policy Turkmenistan demonstrated rapid economic growth and high social development indicators today.

It was noted that the key factor for promoting progressive development of the country and strengthening its democratic foundations included the development of the regulatory framework in the spirit of the large-scale processes of reforms.

One of the major themes under discussion was the success of the foreign policy doctrine of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov which had won the country and its leader the high prestige in the international arena. Forum participants noted that the innovative constructive initiatives put forward by the Turkmen leader were recognized by the world community that welcomed and supported the consistent steps our country took towards democratic development.

The slogan “Peace through development” put forward by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the 66th session of the UN General Assembly vividly testified to the intense peace-building activity of Turkmenistan which built its foreign policy strategy on peacefulness and good neighbourliness, mutual respect and commitment to universally recognized norms of international law.

Expressing deep gratitude to the Turkmen leader for his tireless efforts for the benefit of the Motherland and people, conference participants adopted the Address to the President of Turkmenistan assuring that they would apply every effort, knowledge and skills to put the lofty ideas of the epoch of new Revival and great reforms into life.

The photo exposition entitled “Turkmenistan and International Organisations: Cooperation for Peace and Development in the name of the Happy Life of Mankind” and a book exhibition dedicated to Turkmenistan’s achievements for 20 years of independence were arranged within the framework of the international conference.
