A regular meeting of the Interdepartmental commission for monitoring the implementation of the international human rights and humanitarian law commitments took place at the Turkmen National Institute on Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan. The meeting brought together the representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, a number of ministries and departments as well as public organizations of the country. The meeting participants discussed the results of work for the six months of the current year and specified the plans for the future.
It was noted that within the reporting period the Commission, the existing consultative interdepartmental agency, implemented a complex of measures aimed at further democratization and strengthening the legal foundations of the Turkmen society. Being a full member of the United Nations Organization and ratifying the main international conventions, including in the sphere of human rights, Turkmenistan takes practical steps to implement the regulations of these important documents.
The meeting agenda focused on the progress in implementing the National Programme for Early Childhood Development and School Readiness for 2011-2015 and the General Programme of Turkmenistan to develop the system of juvenile justice.
The meeting participants were briefed on the progress of work of the Working Group on implementation of the generally accepted norms of the international humanitarian law into the national legislation as well as a number of other issues.
