The elections to etrap halk maslakhaty were held in the newly formed etraps of Ashgabat – Ruhabat and Abadan and Dervese Etrap of Ahal Velayat were held on Sunday.
The candidates were nominated for election on a broad democratic and alternative basis in compliance with the principles of openness and transparency, the electoral law of Turkmenistan and universally recognized standards of international law. 20 electoral districts were formed for the election to halk maslakhaty in each etrap - Ruhabat, Abadan and Derveze and 9 electoral districts were formed for the election to Gengesh in Derveze Etrap. 139 candidates were nominated for election on equal terms in 69 electoral districts.
National observers, who conducted monitoring of the electoral process in the districts, confirmed their openness and transparency.
According to the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda in Turkmenistan, the elections were declared valid. Votes are being counted.
