A big holiday symbolizing peace, stability, friendly relations with all states based on mutual respect and equal cooperation and inviolable unity of the nation came to the ancient Turkmen land.
Our country has changed beyond recognition, enhanced its economic strength and improved the quality of life of its citizens for 16 years which passed since the world community had recognized the neutrality of Turkmenistan. Hundreds of plants and factories were put into operation throughout the country. The Turkmen capital and all regions of the country have significantly changed. Visible results have been achieved in the sphere of foreign policy. These achievements help us to move forward glorifying our state and people, increasing their fame and merit.
In the afternoon the festivities dedicated to the 16th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan took place at the Ashgabat stadium. This sports facility designed for 20,000 spectators has been recently put into operation in the southwest of the Turkmen capital. The President of Turkmenistan attended the ceremony of opening the stadium. The cabinet ministers, deputies of the Mejlis, heads and officials of diplomatic missions accredited to the country, Turkmen ambassadors to foreign countries, representatives of public organisations, Turkmen and foreign journalists, the elders, youth and numerous guests gathered together at the stadium to enjoy the fascinating show.
The festively decorated stadium greeted the guests. Everything was ready for the grandiose festivity. Boys dressed in costumes of different peoples of the world appeared in the sports arena carrying the green banners and flags of Turkmenistan and UN Member States in their hands. Children’s and students’ dance and folk groups from all regions of the country, who prepared a big performance for the Neutrality Day celebrations, followed them. Numerous spectators and ceremony participants had flags, colourful balloons and banners in their hands. A festive atmosphere reigned everywhere.
Boys and girls formed the composition depicting the globe and the number XVI symbolizing the anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan. Students of the Military Academy of Turkmenistan sitting in the two upper and lower sectors of the stadium ‘drew’ various compositions and the words BITARAP TURKMENISTAN (NEUTRAL TURKMENISTAN) on the ‘live’ screen using the flags of different colours.
At that moment the presenters were congratulating the people of Turkmenistan on the Neutrality Day. In the epoch of new Revival and great changes independent neutral Turkmenistan demonstrates qualitatively new approaches to addressing important issues of modern times and positions itself as the state urging to promote wide international cooperation for the common well-being and global security.
The theatrical performance began with the appearance of students of higher educational institutions from all over the country who were carrying the flags of Turkmenistan and 185 countries which had unanimously adopted the Resolution on the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan in 1995 in the central arena of the stadium.
Children’s dance groups picked up the baton of the celebrations. They performed the musical composition “Happy Generation” and stood in the arena forming the rainbow. In their songs and dances they glorified the happy life and the joy of youth who looked to the future with confidence. Over many centuries the Turkmen people dreamt about the time when their children would live in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere and develop their talents and abilities for the benefit of the Motherland. Young citizens of Turkmenistan have this opportunity in the present epoch through the prudent policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov aimed at bringing up and educating youth in the spirit of the national traditions and values.
Turkmen sportsmen, who turned the stadium arena into the Olympic Village and the arena for exhibition performances in dozens of sports within a few seconds, continued the show. The popular wisdom says that health is the greatest wealth, and the health of the nation has been proclaimed in Turkmenistan the national heritage. Considerable efforts taken in the Turkmen state to modernize this sphere are illustrated by dozens of new sports facilities built throughout the country for the past years.
In the arena athletes formed the composition depicting the number 2017 – the year when Ashgabat would be hosting the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. The decision of the Olympic Council of Asia to hold these continental competitions in the Turkmen capital is another outstanding result of the significant work carried out under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the country towards promoting a healthy lifestyle and sports movement and integrating into the international sports processes.
Legendary Ahalteke horses, the beauty and pride of the Turkmen people appeared in the arena. Horse riders carried the flags of Turkmenistan and UN member States in their hands. The ‘heavenly horses’ are an invaluable property of the national and the world cultural heritage. They are an adornment of international equestrian events and, of course, national festivities.
The festive show was concluded with the performance presented by artistic ensembles from all five regions of the country. The main idea of this performance told in the language of art was that our people work fruitfully and widely celebrate national holidays following the national traditions. This performance turned into the manifestation of unity and solidarity of the Turkmen people around their national leader. The artists’ enthusiasm and heartfelt appeal for new labour victories and achievements for the benefit of the Motherland and people served as the hymn to the great epoch of new Revival. The congratulations to the people of independent neutral Turkmenistan, the friendly and solidary Turkmen people and their leader, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov were heard at the stadium.
The number XVI marking the remarkable date in the national calendar and the picture of the Neutrality Monument – the symbol of the firm foundations of the peace-loving policy of the Turkmen state appeared in the centre of the sports arena.
The finale of the bright show was the performance of the song Turkmen Halkyn Arkadagyna Shohrat by all participants of the celebrations and spectators.
