Meeting of the Interdepartmental Council

A regular meeting of the Interdepartmental Council for statistics under the State Committee for Statistics of Turkmenistan took place in the Turkmen capital. The members of the Council and leading specialists of the State Committee attended the meeting.

It was underlined that one of the key aspects of the progressive reforms taken place in Turkmenistan today under the patronage of the President of Turkmenistan was the improvement of work of the agencies for statistics to provide the institutions of the state power and administration as well as other users with the data on the social and economic development of the country and its regions that meets huh international standards.

The Interdepartmental Council for statistics, an advisory body for coordination of the statistics in the country plays a significant role in the reformatory processes and interdepartmental issues in this sphere. The Council prepares the recommendations for enhancing the interdepartmental cooperation in the sphere of using the unified statistical classifiers, creating the unified databases, developing modern technologies of collecting and processing information, considering the plans of maintaining statistics in the ministries and departments.

The meeting participants exchanged their views about the new version of the State Classification of the Economic Activities, which will be implemented since the beginning of the year of 2014.

The meeting participants also discussed a draft of the Interdepartmental agreement to receive data from administrative sources, the recommendations on extension of the scope of providing professional knowledge in the field of statistics. The members of the Council also considered the possibility of establishing departments of statistics in specific ministries and departments engaged in statistics.

According to those taken part in the meeting, the decisions taken will promote the development of the national statistics.
