The national holiday – Neutrality Day – was widely and solemnly celebrated in Turkmenistan. The celebrations took place in all the regions and the capital of the Motherland.

The ceremony of laying flowers to the Monument to Neutrality, which embodies the triumph of the lofty fundamental principles of the Turkmen people, such as peacefulness, amicability and humanism, was held in Ashgabat early on the morning on December 12.

The magnificent monument built in the picturesque district of the Turkmen capital at the foothills of the Kopetdag Mountains is the venue for the festivities and cultural events which were held to mark the 18th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan. The Chairperson of the Mejlis, cabinet ministers, high-ranking officials of military and law enforcement agencies, ministries and departments, heads of diplomatic missions and representations accredited in our country, the elders, students, Ashgabat citizens, representatives of public organisations and foreign guests laid flowers to the monument.

In the epoch of might and happiness the unique international legal status – the status of permanent neutrality – is a critical success factor for implementing the ambitious national programmes and social and economic reforms as well as strengthening global peace and security and enhancing cooperation with all states and authoritative international organisations. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized in his congratulatory address to the Turkmen people: “We attach great importance to strengthening neutrality of sovereign Turkmenistan and are very proud of its unique legal status. Diplomacy, legal culture and the fundamental ideas of humanism of our peace-loving people, which can serve as an example for the world community, underlie the concept of neutrality”.
