Turkmenistan is on the threshold of the important event. On December 15, the polling stations throughout the country will open the doors to the citizens of Turkmenistan who will come there to exercise their constitutional right, perform their civic duty and elect the most worthy representatives of the people to the highest legislative body of the country.
According to the State News Agency of Turkmenistan, the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan conducted the significant work that involved government authorities of all levels and public organisations. The current election law and standards of the international law were met at the preparation stage of the election campaign.
The polling stations throughout country are and adequately equipped with transparent ballot boxes, ballot papers, reference and methodological materials, communications facilities, transport and office equipment. Citizens will exercise their vote in the polling booths in the special premises.
The election commissions that consisted of the representatives of the political parties, labour collectives and public organisations took a responsible approach to their duties. Activists carried out the work to explain the rights and obligations as eligible voters to the citizens of Turkmenistan that had the heavy massive turnout increased as a result. Moreover, those citizens of Turkmenistan who will be away or unable to get to a polling place on the days of elections on December 15, used their rights to vote early. Their ballot papers will be kept in the sealed ballot boxes until the votes are counted.
The meetings with the candidates to the Mejlis deputies were held according to the schedule. The citizens were informed of the date and place of the meeting through the mass media beforehand. It is very important to note that all candidates had the equal opportunities and terms to run their election campaign.
Speaking on the forthcoming elections, it should be noted that following the international principles of openness and democracy, Turkmenistan invited the representatives of the world community to monitor the elections. As was reported, the CIS observation mission represented by the CIS member states, the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Election Observation Mission of the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) as well as the delegation of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly arrived in the Turkmen capital to monitor the elections.
