The closing press conference was conducted at the CIS Observer Mission Headquarters. The results of the monitoring for the preparation and holding of the elections of the deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan of the V convocation were presented at the press conference. Turkmen and foreign journalists, the members of the Central Commission for Election and Referenda of Turkmenistan and velayat and Ashgabat election commissions, members of the OSCE observer mission, etc. attended the press conference.
Speaking during the press conference, Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary, Sergey Lebedev noted that during the visits to the constituencies in the Turkmen capital and all regions of the country, the members of the Mission, including 68 observers representing nine countries, were provided with an opportunity to see the course of work of the election campaign, to assess the level of the preparation for the elections among the members of the elections commissions and speak with candidates.
Speaking on behalf of the CIS observers, S. Lebedev noted that “the Parliamentary elections in Turkmenistan were held at the high organizational level. The public authorities and election committees took all necessary measures to guarantee the right of voters to make a free choice during the elections. Thus, the Parliamentary elections on December 15, 2013, were held in compliance with the Constitution and Election Code of Turkmenistan. The elections that satisfied the requirements of the generally recognized democratic standards were held on a transparent and democratic basis".
