The Interagency Commission for Monitoring of the Implementation of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law International Commitments of Turkmenistan held a regular meeting at the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan. The work done in 2013, the plans for the current year and the progress in implementing the General Programme of Juvenile Justice System of Turkmenistan and other issues were put on the meeting agenda.
Guided by the priority objectives of improving national legislation to bring it into compliance with the fundamental international norms of human rights, the Commission conducted the monitoring of the current legislation and drafted the proposals and recommendations for the amendments and additions to the laws of Turkmenistan through 2013.
The seminars and meetings on the study of the best international practice in the protection of human rights were organized and held with the participation of international experts.
Discussing the plans of the Commission for 2014, its members paid special attention to the practical implementation of the planned measures, enhancement of partnership with authoritative international organisations, particularly the United Nations, in the legal field. The main fields of work of the Commission for the current year include information activities to elucidate key aspects of the domestic and foreign policies of Turkmenistan.
