The main tasks to be fulfilled in Turkmenistan in 2012 were discussed during the public meetings held at Turkmen ministries and departments last week.
Underlining the unquestionable significance of the tasks set to the modern Turkmen society the Turkmen leader put forward in his keynote speech at the recent enlarged government meeting, the meeting participants focused on the need to concert efforts and take all necessary measures to facilitate the fulfilment of these tasks.
Touching upon the broad scope and variety of aspects of the policy pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov assigning primary importance to citizens and their interests, they were unanimous that a priority vector of the work to be carried out in 2012 should be enhancing the economic strength of Turkmenistan that had been maintaining economic growth over the past decades.
The President noted that the strategic tasks Turkmenistan was to fulfil in the near future was to reach the level of states with the high quality of living and rapid economic growth that promote fruitful relations with foreign countries. In 2012, the GDP growth rate should make up 110.8 percent through the intensive development of all the sectors, and of the baking and financial system should be developed further. These are the objectives that the National Programme of Social and Economic Development of Turkmenistan for 2011-2030 initiated by the Turkmen leader and being successfully implemented in our country is to achieve. The activities set forth in this Programme are aimed at intensively developing all the sectors of the national economy, modernizing leading enterprises and industries and training young qualified specialists.
A key aspect of the state policy is the foreign policy strategy of the Turkmen state that has been pursuing the policy of peace-making and good neighbourliness since it gained independence. As is known, this policy has won Turkmenistan ardent support and high prestige worldwide. This year our country is going to participate in a number of the important international forums and put forward the constructive proposals to build up cooperation with the major international organisations and structures, particularly the UN, the OSCE, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and others.
This year will be marked by the presidency of Turkmenistan over the Commonwealth of Independent States, the organisation acting as an effective instrument for enhancing friendly relations and economic cooperation in the post-Soviet space. The Concept of the presidency of Turkmenistan over the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2012 provides for conducting a number of important events, including the regular meetings of the CIS Council of Heads of Government, the CIS Economic Council, the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers and a meeting of Heads of States.
The most important event to take place in 2012 will be the 12 February presidential elections. This political campaign will become another critical step to promote the ongoing legal reforms and democratic changes. It was noted that currently the preparations for this important political action was under way throughout the country, and all necessary measures were being taken to hold the presidential election in a proper and timely manner, in a festive atmosphere.
“We will make the year 2012 the year of the dramatic improvement of the social and living conditions in rural areas,” emphasized the Turkmen leader in his keynote speech noting that the state would spare no expense for this purpose. In this regard, all the ministries and departments in collaboration with velayat khyakimliks are to ensure that the tasks set forth in the National Programme for the improvement of the social and living conditions in villages, settlements, towns in etraps and etrap centres for the period till 2020 will be fulfilled.
Expressing ardent support for the Turkmen leader’s initiatives for sustainable development of Turkmenistan, the meeting participants assured that they were aware of their awesome responsibility and would make every effort to ensure that the tasks and objectives would be fulfilled which directly contributed to improving the people’s welfare and increasing prosperity of the country.
