Magtymguly Avenue – one of the oldest in Ashgabat, it crosses the capital from northwest to southeast. Now, some people know that originally it was called as Merv Avenue, because it run through whole city and joined to road leading to Merv, modern Mary. City has grown and new blocks have risen. Magtymguly Avenue became longer.

The first fountains in the capital appeared exactly on this avenue buried in verdure of maples, planes and robinia, siris, cedar, pines and cypresses in summer. And first monument to great Phragy was also set in shady square along Magtymguly Avenue.
On the avenue bearing the name of great poet, there are the oldest in the city parks of culture and recreation: “Gunesh” – favorite park of children and Ashgabat- one of the central parks, which experienced reconstruction and celebrates its new birth. Today, the avenue is adorned with new buildings, renewed dwelling houses, schools, administrative and cultural –educative institutions, higher educational establishments, cultural-entertaining center “Parahat”, “Ashgabat” cinema opened in 2011. High monument “White city – Ashgabat”, which opening was timed to the Day of city, attracts today the attention of everyone.
