The Interagency Commission for Monitoring the Implementation of the International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law Commitments of Turkmenistan held a regular meeting at the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan. The agenda of the meeting that brought together deputies of the Mejlis, representatives of the ministries and departments concerned, law enforcement agencies and public organisations focused on the results of the work done in 2011 and the short-term tasks.
The protection of the human rights and interests of citizens remains a key priority of the policy of the Turkmen state. Showing commitment to its obligations under the documents of the authoritative international organisations, including the United Nations that it acceded to, Turkmenistan takes consistent steps to implement universally recognized international standards and provisions for the protection of the human rights and freedoms.
In this context the Commission members noted that the proposals and recommendations on modernization of the national legislation were developed in the framework of the legal reform to meet fundamental international human rights standards.
The major aspects of the work on the improvement of the juvenile law in collaboration between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN Children’s Fund Office in Turkmenistan were considered during the meeting. The preparation of the national reports on implementation of international commitment to the treaty bodies was the focus of the discussions.
