The XVII Conference of the Humanitarian Association of the World Turkmens took place in Ashgabat. The forum that is traditionally held on the eve of the main holiday of the country – the Day of Independence brought together the delegates from all regions of Turkmenistan as well as the representatives of the Turkmen diasporas from 18 countries, in particular Afghanistan, Belarus, the UK, Germany, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, the UAE, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and Sweden.
The Humanitarian Association of the World Turkmen was founded on May 18, 1991. Within the years the Humanitarian Association of the World Turkmen has become an authoritative international organization that includes twenty seven foreign branches, hundreds groups and members that actively work in different countries all around the world.

Within the last years, the content and areas of work of the Humanitarian Association of the World Turkmen with our compatriots living abroad have significantly expanded. The cooperation in such spheres as science and education, culture and art as well as entrepreneurship enhanced impressively. The Humanitarian Association of the World Turkmen plays a special role in developing the cooperation of the Turkmen state with foreign countries and popularizing the peace-loving and progressive policy of independent neutral Turkmenistan, and its high achievements in the new historical epoch. Various events are organized in foreign states with the aim to promote consolidation of our compatriots, spiritual union of the nation, preservation of the unique Turkmen customs and traditions, popularization of the national culture. This year, the major part of them is dedicated to the 290th anniversary of the great Turkmen poet Magtymguly Fragi.
Before the opening ceremony of the XVII Conference of the Humanitarian Association of the World Turkmens, the forum participants laid flowers to the Monument of Independence of Turkmenistan.

The cabinet ministers, deputies of the Mejlis, ambassadors of Turkmenistan to foreign countries, the heads and representatives of the large public organizations of our country, a number of ministries, departments and institutions of higher education of Turkmenistan - members of the Humanitarian Association of the World Turkmens as well as journalists and workers of culture and art, scientists, the heads of a number of institutions of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan participated in the solemn ceremony of opening the forum taken place in the Mekan Palace in Ashgabat.
The Address of President of Turkmenistan, President of the Humanitarian Association of the World Turkmens Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was presented to the participants of the forum.
The reports on the work done by the Humanitarian Association of the World Turkmens and its foreign branches in 2014 were presented during the meeting. Forum participants also discussed the tasks on the further development of the cultural and humanitarian cooperation of the world Turkmens. A wide range of organisational issues were considered and the relevant decisions were adopted during the meeting.

The ceremony of awarding Honorary Diplomas to the foreign members of the Association who achieved outstanding results in their activity took place during the conference.
The exposition of the exhibits kept in Ashgabat museums as well as the works by teachers and students of the Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan was arranged in the foyer of the Mekan Palace. The exposition told about the history, traditions, and customs of the Turkmen people, their unique art. The national melodies and songs sounded in the Palace glorifying the ancient and eternally young Turkmen land, diligent and talented Turkmen people.
Our foreign guests will take part in the festive events on occasion of the 23d anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan. Within the framework of their visit to our country, they will also have meetings with local citizens, visit exhibitions and museums, attend opening ceremonies of new industrial, social and cultural facilities, and make tours around the Turkmen capital and its suburbs.
