The Avaza National tourist zone hosts the three-day interregional meeting on leishmaniasis with the aim to strengthen the transboundary cooperation between the Central Asian states (WHO European region) and the countries of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region.
The main goal of the interregional meeting that is held under the WHO auspices is to strengthen the transboundary epidemiological surveillance and enhance cooperation to control leishmaniasis within the framework of the regional strategic plans.
The meeting, which is taken place in the conference hall of the Deniz Hotel, brought together the specialists and consultants of the WHO two regional offices as well as the countries of the Central Asia, Caucasus and the Middle East, the Director of the WHO Regional Office for Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of our country, the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service and leading clinical centres.
The review of the relevant events and measures taken all around the world, including the WHO European and Eastern Mediterranean regions to prevent leishmaniasis was presented during a plenary session.
The reports presented during the plenary session focused on the positive experience of Turkmenistan in the struggle against transmissible diseases and the results achieved by our country to eliminate malaria and other infectious diseases. Malaria eradication was a vector control in the prevention of leishmaniasis in our country.
In the afternoon, the reports on the epidemiological situation in the specific countries, the existing methods and prospects of cooperation with the aim to prevent leishmaniasis were presented.
