The action, in which narcotic drugs were burnt, was held nearby Bagabat village in Ak Bugdai Etrap, Ahal Velayat. Narcotic drugs were seized during the special operations conducted by the law enforcement agencies of Turkmenistan. The heads of military and law enforcement agencies and public organisations, representatives of foreign diplomatic missions and international organisations accredited in the country and the media attended the event organized by the Government of Turkmenistan, the State Coordination Commission on Drug Abuse under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the State Service for the Protection of Security of the Healthy Society.
The action, in which over 200 kilogram of narcotic drugs were burnt, is another vivid evidence for the firm commitment of the Turkmen state and our society to addressing one of the most dangerous challenges facing mankind in our time.
Before burning, narcotic drugs seized during the special operations were demonstrated to those present. Then bags and bundles with narcotic drugs were burnt in the special furnaces. Each participant could take part in the action and throw a package with dangerous substances into the furnaces. These furnaces ensure that narcotic drugs are burnt completely. The action was held in full compliance with the regulations and monitored by law enforcement officers.
Turkmenistan consistently cooperates with the United Nations. Our country is a party to the three international conventions on combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances adopted by the UN in 1961, 1971 and 1988 and a member of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs for 2012-2015.
In accordance with the Work Plan to combat drug trafficking and assist people addicted to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for 2011-2015 extensive measures are taken to curb drug trafficking and detect and prevent drug addiction. Large-scale raise awareness activities that involve law enforcement agencies, health care and education institutions and public organisations are carried out throughout the country. Today, sports and a healthy lifestyle - the uncompromising alternative to bad habits - is gaining increasing popularity in Turkmen society.
