Key objectives of social and economic development of the regions discussed

The meetings, held in Ahal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary Velayat, focused on social and economic development of the regions in 2014 and the key objectives to be achieved in 2015 as set by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the January 9 enlarged meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers and the videoconference meeting with the hyakims of the regions and Ashgabat. The high-ranking officials and leading specialists of hyakimliks of the velayats, towns and etraps, enterprises, institutions and organisations, law enforcement agencies, members of Parliament, heads of village administration and representatives of public organisations and the media participated in the meetings.

The Turkmen leader set key short term tasks to each velayat, including comprehensive industrialization of the regions, enhancement of the export potential of the industrial sector and expansion of production of a wide range of import substituting products and consumer goods.

Meeting participants discussed in detail the progress of the seasonal agricultural campaigns. Specific measures to be taken to intensify the development of the livestock sector, increase the livestock and poultry production at state-run and private farms, expand production of vegetables, watermelons, gourds, melons and fruits, restore soil fertility of moderate and high salinity and improve the quality of land improvement activities were identified.

The issues under discussion included the timely preparations for planting cotton and other crops, the implementation of the Action Plan on integrated water resources management and improvement of water-carrying capacity of the Karakum River for 2015-2020 recently approved by the Special Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan and the allocation of plots of land in the regions to the Food Industry Association, the State Livestock Association, members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs for the construction of livestock and poultry farms and planting of fodder crops.

The meetings provides a platform for a constructive conversation on the implementation of the investment programmes and the need to strengthen control over the completion of construction of industrial and social facilities in accordance with quality requirements and construction schedule in 2015. Particular attention was paid to the construction of comfortable apartment houses, including mortgage programmes.

On the instructions of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov meeting participants discussed in detail the measures to be taken against corruption and bribery, violations of law and other negative phenomena. The prosecutors of the regions presented the reports on the violations identified during the inspection at the subdivisions of a number of ministries and departments and local governments.

Meeting participants focused on the importance of taking measures to ensure law and order in the state and society and prevent crime. In this regard, emphasis was placed on the responsibility of high-ranking officials and public prosecutor’s offices for maintaining the rule of law, raising legal literacy of citizens, preventing all types of offenses and, certainly, exercising effective prosecutorial supervision over the implementation of laws, decrees of the President of Turkmenistan, the Cabinet of Ministers, resolutions of Mejlis by all enterprises and organisations, institutions and associations, officials and citizens.
