Seminar on the legal principles of electoral process

Ashgabat hosted a two-day seminar on the legal principles of the electoral process organized by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR).

Highly evaluating the steps taken by Turkmenistan towards democratic changes, organisers of the meeting noted that the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe would continue providing every assistance to the Turkmen side in promoting legal reform aimed at improvement of electoral system and national legislation.

Forum participants, including representatives of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda in Turkmenistan got acquainted with the international standards of work of elective bodies, rights and procedures for registering electorate and candidates as well as the principles for holding main stages of election campaign and elections and public information.

Underlining the openness of the Turkmen state for cooperation that is vividly proved by the fact that Turkmenistan inivtes independent observers from many countries and international organisations to monitor elections, meeting participants emphasized that Turkmenistan followed the undertaken commitments and took all necessary steps to implement the regulations of the basic documents on human rights and feedoms.
