The conference entitled “The Constitution of Turkmenistan: Statehood, Justice, Cohesion and Peace” dedicated to the Constitution and Magtymguly Fraghi’s Poetry Day took place in Ashgabat on May 16-17. The forum organized by the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and Political Council of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan brought together deputies of the National Parliament, representatives of political parties and public organisations, scientific and educational sphere and mass media.
Those speaking during the conference emphasized that the Main Law of our country not only strengthened the achievements of independence but also defined the main directions of the further democratic development of the Turkmen society reflecting the centuries-old dreams of our people about the unity and cohesion, patriotism and humanism, creativity and prosperous life. The present day’s agenda includes the further improvement of the Main Law of Turkmenistan that will be an important step to address the problems on strengthening the national statehood, foundations of democracy, formation of a modern civil society. The new edition of the Constitution of Turkmenistan aims at reflecting the political, economic and social goals for today and long-term prospects.
Participants of the sectional sessions held at the Mejlis, Magtymguly Turkmen State University and the Institute of International Relations of Turkmenistan discussed the key areas for improvement of the Main Law. The focus was placed on strengthening the constitutional and legal foundations of the rights of an individual and a citizen, the development of activities of state and legal institutions and civil society in order to ensure the further prosperity of independent neutral Turkmenistan and enhance the quality of life of the people.
