It was held a meeting of the Central Committee on elections and referendums in Turkmenistan

It was held a regular session of the Central Committee on elections and referendums in Turkmenistan devoted to the issues of preparation for forthcoming elections of Gengesh members and deputies of Parliament on election districts # 7 “Gunesh” and # 8 “Dostluk” of Ashgabat. Members of the Central Election Committee, representatives of the working groups created at the Central Election Committee, employees of the machinery of the Central Election Committee, national observers, and mass media have taken part in session.

According to the national electoral legislation, it was completed the major stage of the election campaign expanded everywhere in connection with upcoming elections on August 16 - promotion and registration of candidates for Gengesh members and deputies of the National Parliament on two election districts. As it has been noted in reports of the heads of province and Ashgabat city election committees, to date, for 6041 mandate of Gengesh member all over the country it was registered 13528 candidates, including over 973 election districts of Ahal province - 2017, over 413 election districts of Balkan province - 895, over 1416 election districts of Dashoguz province - 3324, over 1449 election districts of Lebap province - 3485, over 1790 election districts of Mary province - 3807. As applicants for the mandate of deputy of the Parliament on election districts # 7 “Gunesh” and # 8 “Dostluk” of Ashgabat it was registered two candidates from each one. The information about candidates was published in a local press.

Among applicants to the structure of aforementioned local governments and National Parliament, there are workers of agriculture, representatives of sphere of education, science and culture, financial and economic sector, workers of healthcare system and social services, various branches of national economy: the industry, construction, and communication. Many of them represent the political parties and public associations: Democratic party - 2939 persons, Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs - 525, Agrarian party - 1248, Trade Unions - 3971, Youth Organization named after Mahtumkuli - 1105, Women’s Union - 1548, as well as groups of citizens - 2192 persons. Thus, it is provided a real participation of all institutions of a civil society in solution of major issues of people’s life in Turkmenistan.

In all election districts for one place of the candidate, it is nominated several persons that completely meets the principles of alternativeness of elections.

The equal rights are provided to all candidates and their authorized representatives while agitation - speeches at pre-election gatherings, meetings and sessions, which are held today everywhere, as well as in mass media. Organization of such meetings was assigned to political parties and organizations, which nominated these candidates, election committees jointly with corresponding bodies of local executive authority and local government, heads of the enterprises, establishments and other structures.

Presently, besides basic actions envisaged by the planned schedule of the Central Election Committee, the electoral commissions give necessary consultations on all issues interesting for citizens, explaining them the advantages of new electoral system.

Within the framework of session, it was also listened to the reports of national observers from political parties, public associations and organizations, which realize the monitoring of pre-election campaign, about work carried out in present time. As it has been noted, all stages of pre-election process are held in accordance with the national legislation.

Moreover, according to the Election Code, it was made a decision on holding of pre-term voting - 10 days prior to official date of elections - for those citizens of Turkmenistan, who will not have possibility to be in abiding place on the election day.

During session of the Central Election Committee, it was also considered other organizational issues and according to them, it was made relevant decisions.
