On the threshold of the Turkmen Melon Day, a competition of melon growers has taken place in the city of Mary. More than three tens of Babadayhan followers, both skilled and beginning melon growers have gathered from velayat regions to show their skill, and simply to advertise their production.

Seyitmyrat Annayev from Gokche Peasants’ Association of Vekilbazar etrap became the winner in the first nomination. The melon grown up by him “Sha gawun” weighed 17,5 kg, 69 centimeters in grasp, it was the best by its organoleptic features as well.
The largest water-melon - weighing 27,4 kg and 66 cm in diameter - was presented by Shohrat Gelenov from “Watan” Peasants’ Association of Wekilbazar etrap.
Pumpkin-winner grown by Orazgeldi Gurbanov from “Yashlyk” Peasants’ Association of Tagtabazar etrap appeared a little lesser than watermelon. Its weight was 25,1 kg, and in diameter it even has surpassed a water-melon up to six centimeters!
In “Fanciful products of melon fields” nomination the collection of pumpkin products of Maya Berdigylyjova from “Akgonur” Peasants’ Association of Vekilbazar etrap has appeared the most original. Like the true sculptor, she has even created breadboard models of Ancient Merw monuments, as well as a palace complex of the velayat library.
Rovshen Kadyrov from “Daghan” Peasants’ Association of Oguzhan etrap became the best in “Applied selection” nomination. His melon “Daghan” deduced on the basis of local sorts and well-known “Vaharman” sort, has subdued jury and spectators with its flavor qualities.
