Central Asian countries and USA hold C5+1 video conference meeting

The heads of the Foreign Ministries of Central Asian countries and USA have heldonlne talks in C5+1 format on April 23. Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan Uzbekistan and the US State Secretary have discussed the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, combating pandemics, climate change and energy sphere.

Vice-premier, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov has made special mention of the problems of the climate change and environmental protection in his speech. The Foreign Minister presented Ashgabat’s initiatives aimed at expansion of the cooperation of Central Asian countries with the United States in ecological sphere. In particular, Turkmenistan proposes to establish Regional Center of Technologies related to the climate change and to review the capability of formation of scientific and ecological clusters. According to the opinion of Turkmen side, it is appropriate to organizes series of training with participation of American experts as the first measure in this direction.

The head of Turkmen Foreign Ministry has elaborated on the Aral Sea problems, having highlighted the necessity to activate work for development of the UN Special Program for the countries of the Aral Sea basin, which was initiated by Ashgabat.

Water subject has also been highlighted. Turkmenistan thinks that water issues in Central Asia have to solved based on recognized standards of international law taking into account the interests of all countries in the region and with participation of international organizations.

In the end of the meeting, the sides have noted the importance to continue systematic dialog in C5+1 format.
