The ceremony of awarding the winners of the Woman of the Year contest took place at the Centre of Public Organisations of Turkmenistan on the eve of International Women’s Day. The winners are our compatriots who are successful at work and in their family and social life. They won their nominations at the etrap and town stages of the national contest and proved that they were the best of the best. The honorary title of the Woman of the Year testifies to an unconditional recognition of the outstanding services of these women.
The Woman of the Year contest aimed at promoting the state policy of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for enhancing the social status of women, developing the potential of every woman and creating conditions conducive to demonstrating their abilities is one of the social projects of the Women’s Union of Turkmenistan. The aim of the contest is to reveal the best workers, activists, custodians of the family hearth and national traditions and popularize the achievements of our compatriots.
Chairperson of the Women’s Union, Chairperson of the National Centre of Trade Unions Govher Babajanovna Bairamova congratulated those present on the upcoming holiday and noted in her opening remarks at the award ceremony that the Turkmen people had been worshipping a woman as a goddess at all times and called her “the crown of creation”. Turkmen women, who maintain the traditions of their ancestors, have a high status in modern Turkmen society. “Women return their accomplishments at work and their active contribution to achieving new goals and objectives set by the Turkmen leader in the epoch of might and happiness for the unceasing concern and attention of the leader of the Turkmen state,” G. Bairamova said in her opening remarks.
The contestants performed in seven nominations, presenting different roles that women play in modern Turkmen society, including high professionalism, safeguarding of traditional national craftsmanship, promotion of spiritual values and national cultural heritage, achievements in upbringing of children, strengthening of defence capacity of the country and the rule of law, contribution to rural development, business accomplishments. According the rules, the participants presented the film about their life, work and family and the album with their diplomas and certificates illustrating their achievements at work and in the social life at the contest.
People’s Writer, Heroine of Turkmenistan Gozel Shagulyeva and other prominent women of our country announced the winners. The Woman of the Year Award was presented in different nominations to Editor-in-Chief of Physical Culture and Sport Journal Maisa Ovezova, a carpet maker at the National Turkmen Carpet Museum Annabagt Durdyeva, a research officer at the Dashoguz Velayat Local History Museum Hayitgul Ataeva, an English teacher at school 27 from Ak Bugdai Etrap, Ahal Velayat Orazbibi Gurdova, senior lieutenant Shahlo Gudykova, a shepherd from S. A. Niyazov farmers association in Magtymguly Etrap, Balkan Velayat Ogulsheker Dovletova and an entrepreneur from Bairamali town, Mary Velayat Ogulbash Toshieva.
The organizers of the contest presented the bouquets of flowers and gifts to the winners and the audience greeted them with thunderous applause. The sincere congratulations and songs were performed in honour of the winners and all women of the country at the award ceremony.
The Woman of the Year contest once again has illustrated that women, whose labour and creative achievements deserve our highest recognition, work in our country. Women of different ages and professions live in different regions of Turkmenistan, but they are united by the desire to reach new heights in profession and be useful to the society and the family. Recognition is earned through hard work and this is its formula.
