Today, the Turkmen capital hosted a meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation, which was attended by heads and representatives of a number of government agencies, including ministries and sectoral departments, as well as business circles of the two countries.
From the Turkmen side, the Commission was headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers S. Berdimuhamedov, and the representative delegation of a friendly country was headed by Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation A. Overchuk.
The main topics of the meeting included ways of building the potential of bilateral interaction and results of the work done on the practical implementation of the previously reached agreements.
Speaking about the importance of intensifying long-term cooperation in a number of priority areas, including on the trade and economic line and in the humanitarian sphere, Deputy Prime Minister S. Berdimuhamedov and the head of the Russian delegation A. Overchuk stressed that the Intergovernmental Commission plays a huge role in building up productive contacts.
The fuel and energy complex, transport and communication area, gas chemical industry, geology, construction, financial and banking sector and a number of other industries were named among the promising vectors of bilateral relations. As noted, great opportunities open up taking into account the mutual industrial reserve, including by expanding the range of exported goods.
During the meeting, it was also emphasized that interaction between Turkmenistan and the regions of the Russian Federation, its largest industrial and cultural centers, where solid experience has already been accumulated, seems to be very relevant. A striking example of this is the successfully developing fruitful partnership with the Republic of Tatarstan, St. Petersburg, the Astrakhan region, etc. In this context, noting the existence of the most favorable conditions for intensifying productive cooperation, the parties spoke in favor of establishing closer cooperation ties between our country and the regions of Russia.
Particular emphasis was placed on the potential for expanding bilateral contacts in the light of projects being implemented in our country in various segments of the economy. Confirming the desire of the Russian business community to expand its presence in the promising Turkmen market, where a number of well-known Russian companies are already successfully operating, the guests made specific proposals for cooperation.
Issues related to strengthening humanitarian cooperation, primarily in the field of education and science, were also the subject of discussion.
In conclusion, once again emphasizing the dynamic nature of the Turkmen-Russian partnership, built on the principles of mutual trust and mutual benefit, the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission reaffirmed the need to hold such meetings on a regular basis in order to develop common approaches to forming a common platform for deepening fruitful contacts. As it was emphasized, this meeting will give a new powerful impetus to further development of full-scale cooperation in all areas in the interests of the two friendly peoples.
Following the meeting, the Program of Economic Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Russian Federation for 2021-2023 was signed, which, by replenishing the legal framework of interstate relations, will contribute to creating favorable conditions for their diversification with a long-term perspective.
During the bilateral meetings held today in a number of ministries and sectoral departments of Turkmenistan with representatives of state structures and private companies in Russia, the parties' mutual desire to intensify productive business ties was confirmed. Declaring their readiness to take an active part in the implementation of large-scale national projects, representatives of the Russian delegation, including businessmen, made specific proposals aimed at building up mutually beneficial partnerships in various fields.
During his stay in Ashgabat, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation A. Overchuk was received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation were considered. Particular attention is paid to the implementation of previously reached agreements.
