Turkmenistan – participant in the UN Climate Change Conference

On the instruction of the President of Turkmenistan, the representative delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan S. Berdumuhamedov, will take part in the UN Climate Change Conference, hosted by one of the largest cities in the UK – Glasgow.

COP 26 UN Climate Change Conference is an important international forum, where the heads of states and governments from all around the world discuss joint steps to counteract climate warming.

The participation of a representative delegation of our country in the global forum testifies to the most responsible approach of Turkmenistan to climate change, the understanding of the importance and urgency of adopting common, consensus measures to counter the most serious challenge for humanity.

In this regard, constructive initiatives put forward by the Turkmen leader in various high-level forums, which were widely supported by the international community are of great importance. Among them are the proposals to open a Regional Center for Technologies related to climate change in Central Asia in Ashgabat, to develop a UN Water Strategy, a special UN Caspian Environment Programme, etc.

Having ratified the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement, which have become the most important environmental international legal acts aimed at stabilizing the concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and reducing the anthropogenic impact on the planet's climate, our country strictly fulfills all obligations.

The limitation of greenhouse gas emissions is directly promoted by modern technologies actively introduced in the industrial sector in the process of forming a resource-saving, innovation-oriented "green" national economy, an effective system for monitoring and controlling pollutant emissions. Also, in accordance with the requirements of the time and generally recognized international norms, national legislation is constantly being improved.

In order to mitigate climatic impacts, our country successfully implements important environmental projects and large-scale planting campaigns.

Today, ecology and environmental protection, which are directly related to the future of civilization, are in the focus of the global attention, and therefore Turkmenistan’s initiatives and the large-scale work carried out in the country in this direction are widely supported all around the world.
