The two-day seminar dedicated to improvement of work of mass media took place in the Grand Turkmen Hotel in Ashgabat. The seminar was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan jointly with the Project on cooperation in the exchange of international practices and media legal regulation system in Turkmenistan implemented by the Government of Turkmenistan and the BBC World Service Trust with the support of the European Union and the UK Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The forum brought together the representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Economy and Development, the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan, Magtymguly Turkmen State University, the Institute of International Relations under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH), the State Committee for Broadcasting and Cinematography of Turkmenistan and other national media of the country.
Specialists from Russia and the UK, including expert in the sphere of professional ethics of journalists, Co-Chairman of the Public Association for Printed Media of the Russian Federation Mr. Yuri Kazakov, specialist of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Mr. Stephen Whittle as well as Vice Chairman of the Committee for Ethics of the National Union of Journalists of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Mr. Michael Jampson, were invited to the forum as international experts.
According to those speaking during the seminar, regular improvement of work of the national media through the study of the best world experience in this sphere is of particular importance in the light of the tasks on the further democratic development of the Turkmen society put forward by the President of Turkmenistan.
Reports dedicated to the issues of journalistic ethics and professional requirements set to the work of media in the international practice were presented within the first day of the seminar.
Underlining the efficiency of the long-term mutually beneficial partnership with the aim of further professional development of national media specialists, the forum participants called for continuation of the efficient cooperation and interested exchange of experience in this sphere.
Within the framework of the second day of the seminar, the participants discussed the issues of efficient use of the most advanced information technologies in journalism, including Internet resources.
