Turkmen specialists took part in a seminar on the implementation of the SNA-2008 system

Turkmen specialists took part in a training course on the compilation of tables of supply and use of goods and services in the concept of the System of National Accounts (SNA) 2008.

The online seminar was organized within the framework of the project “Strengthening the institutional, statistical and information technology potential of the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics”, which is implemented jointly by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) together with the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics.

It will assist the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics in conducting a one-time statistical survey on the costs of production and sale of products for 2022.

International expert Natalya Ustinova introduced the participants to the methodological foundations for constructing supply tables and the use of goods and services, the system of input-output tables, import matrices, trade and transport margins, as well as taxes and subsidies.

The System of National Accounts 2008 (2008 SNA) is a statistical framework that includes a comprehensive, systematized and flexible set of macroeconomic accounts used for policy development, analysis. It is intended for use by all countries and is designed to meet the needs of countries at various stages of economic development. The system is also the basis for standards in other areas of economic statistics.

The 2008 SNA is an adaptation of the System of National Accounts 1993 (1993 SNA).

The project to strengthen the capacity of the State Statistics Committee, launched in early 2021, consists of three main components: 1) strengthening the information and technical capacity of the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics, aimed at improving the quality of statistical data; 2) continuing work on the implementation of the conceptual transition to the 2008 SNA and expanding the scope, level of detail and quality of national accounts and complementary economic statistics; 3) increasing the capacity of the State Statistics Committee on statistical reporting to measure the progress of the SDGs.
