Each year, on the first Sunday of April, Turkmenistan widely celebrates the national holiday “Drop of Water – A Grain of Gold”. A big festive programme, including scientific forums, concerts, theater performances, and sports events was dedicated to this remarkable date. Plentiful sachaks and trade fairs were laid throughout the country demonstrating the everlasting generosity of the Turkmen land.
The festivities to mark the wonderful national holiday, A Drop of Water – A Grin of Gold, including bright theater performances, concerts of masters of arts, sports competitions, the ceremonies of awarding veterans and best workers of the water industry of Turkmenistan, were arranged on the banks of rivers, channels and ponds, near fountains in parks and squares in all cities and settlements of our country. The center of the festive celebrations in the white-marble capital of Turkmenistan was the park on the banks of the manmade Karakum River in the northern part of Ashgabat.
The festively decorated park greeted participants and guests to the celebrations with traditional national food. Among the guests were the cabinet ministers, members of the national Parliament, ministries and departments, public organisations and heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to our country, journalists, the elders and young citizens of the city.
The programme of the festivities included an open-air exposition of the advanced high-technology equipment used in the water industry of the country. The models of the Altyn Asyr Lake, existing and future hydraulic structure, the most advanced land reclamation systems, etc. as well as the expositions showcasing the diverse flora and fauna of Turkmenistan were exhibited there. The high-powered agricultural machines that help Turkmen specialist to implement grandiose projects, build manmade lakes and rivers, channels and water storage basins were displayed on the opposite bank of the Karakum River.
The exhibition demonstrated the pools with carp, grass carp and silver carp fries bred at the enterprises Ekologiya Research and Production Centre affiliated with the Ministry of Water Industry and then relieved in open ponds. A lot of festivity participants gathered near the models of waterfalls and canals. As is known, our ancestors, due to their sharpness, workmanship and diligence, created unique methods of fresh water production, including canals – kilometres-long underground galleries.
The competitions on the national kind of wrestling and the kayak competitions created a festive atmosphere, and the artists of the Galkynysh group demonstrated their brilliant horsemanship and trick riding techniques.
The guests were treated with various drinks and dishes of the national cuisine near festively decorated yurtas that created the traditional way of life of a Turkmen village.
By tradition, the ceremony of awarding best water industry workers from all regions of the country and the Turkmen capital. Diplomas and valuable presents were awarded to mirabs, machine-operators, land reclamation experts, as well as active members of the public organisations of Turkmenistan on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
A concert of artists and cultural workers became the bright finale of the festivities. The ceremony of planting saplings on the bank of Karakum River took place in the framework of the festivities.

The celebrations in honour of the national holiday continued in Ashgabat till the evening. The performances were presented at the theaters in Ashgabat, the Turkmenistan and Watan Cinema and Concert Centers, and at the Ylham Alley. The concerts in honor of the Drop of Water – A Grain of Gold holiday took place at the central squares in Ahal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary Velayats.
