The state commission on the population census held a meeting in Ashgabat. The meeting agenda focused on the issues of organization of the forthcoming complete population and housing census in Turkmenistan in December of the current year in accordance with the Resolution of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
As is known, the Turkmen leader pays particular attention to the issues of preparations for this important social and political action. In particular, during the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and video conference held last week, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov underlined the paramount significance of the complete population census within the social and economic development of the country, implementation of the main goal of the new historical epoch embodied under the motto “The state for a person!”.
According to the Turkmen leader, the fundamental changes taken place in all spheres of the state and social life of the country within the last years will be reflected in the outcomes of the forthcoming census. The statistical data, in particular the population size, demographics, social and living conditions of the local citizens to be received as a result of the census, will serve as a foundation for development and successful implementation of the efficient national reformatory programmes.
It should be noted that the 2012 census will be held in line with the UN Programme on Population and Housing Censuses in the UN member states in 2005-2014 that vividly testifies to the adherence of independent Turkmenistan to the partnership with this authoritative international structure.
The meeting participants, including the heads and representatives of the relevant ministries and departments, khyakims of velayats and Ashgabat, and journalists considered the specific issues on implementation of the forthcoming important campaign discussing the results of the work done in this sphere and the forthcoming tasks.
Those speaking during the meeting underlined that entering into the epoch of power and happiness, our country had reached the qualitatively new stage of its history marked with the new progressive approaches to solution of important social and economic tasks and implementation of the large-scale projects aimed at promoting the growth of the Turkmen people’s prosperity. It was also noted that the complete population and housing census was a key source of the full and reliable information about the population size, age categories, the population structure, and in combination with the social and economic characteristics, the national, language, educational and other aspects they would be the key factors for developing the long-term programmes on development of the Turkmen state and society.
Those making reports underlined that at present, the methodical instructions and other necessary documents had been drafted with assistance of the experts of the UN Population Fund Representation in our country, in compliance with the international standards. The statistical agencies in the regions of the country examined the projects of the organizational, programme and methodological provisions of the forthcoming complete population and housing census as well as tested the software support designed for processing the data. The necessity of stirring up the wide explanatory work, and first of all in mass media, was defined among the priority tasks.
The meeting participants called for the further cooperation with the aim to carry out the large-scale social and political campaign at the high organizational level.
