Dr. Trozyants - the oldest dermatologist of Turkmenistan

He went down in history as one of the founders of a completely new for the beginning of the twentieth century direction of medicine in Turkmenistan - the opposition to such diseases as cholera, plague and the treatment of skin and venereal diseases.

The life, fate and work biography of the future "Honored Doctor of Turkmenistan" Gavriil Nikolaevich Trozyants was not easy. By the will of fate, the Trozyants settled in Ashgabat at the end of the 19th century. The first on the Turkmen land is the father of Gavriil. Having got used to the new place a little, he opens a small hairdressing salon, and then transports the whole family to him.

Difficult times require difficult decisions. Feeding a family and raising children was not easy. The family decides to send one of the children - little Gavriil - to study at a parish school, and then he is transferred to a men's gymnasium.

During his studies, Gavriil gave private lessons, and in the summer he was engaged in the preparation and re-examination of elementary school students. This made it possible to alleviate the situation of the family, and most importantly, to successfully graduate from the gymnasium. The help of parents and the diligence of the student also contributed to the successful completion of studies.

The difficulty of entering the university was that G.Trozyants was still insufficiently proficient in Russian. But the persistence, determination and desire of the young man to become a qualified doctor were rewarded. He entered the medical university in Germany, which in 1911 successfully graduated and received a doctorate in medicine and surgery. In student photographs of that time, Trozyants is invariably with a cane, Chaplin's mustache and a bowler hat on his head. The fashion for Chaplin's appearance while studying in Europe could not help touching Trozyanets, like many of his peers, he obviously wanted to be like a famous contemporary.

G.Trozyants returns home after graduating from the university. His arrival in Ashgabat coincided with the then active struggle of doctors against cholera and plague. A qualified specialist of the local hospital, where Gabriel gets a job, is urgently sent to eliminate cholera in Mangyshlak, and a little later - to the Merv district to fight the plague.

In difficult times from 1918 to 1924, he worked as the head of the sanitary and epidemiological department of Ashgabat. A year later, with his active participation in Turkmenistan, the first dermatovenerological department was opened at the Ashgabat city hospital. Trozyants becomes the first head of the new direction of the hospital.

Medical officials of that time succumb to the persistence and pressure of Trozyanets in his decision to open a stationary building with thirty beds for patients. The created solid infrastructure and effective medical work lead to the fact that already in 1932, on the basis of the department headed by Trozyants, the first dermatovenerological institute in the republic was organized. Gavriil Nikolaevich, having gone to work at the newly created institute, came to grips with scientific work. About thirty scientific papers came out from under his pen, which for a long time remained a guiding star for young doctors and medical specialists. Medical practitioners from all over the republic came to him for advice and consultations. Sometimes Trozyants had to replace the leadership of the institute, his experience and excellent knowledge allowed him to successfully cope in this field as well.

During the war years, G.Trozyants worked as a teacher at the Kharkov military medical school, evacuated to Ashgabat.

For his professional activities, scientific developments, public work for the benefit of the republic, G.Trozyants was encouraged by gratitude, was awarded with Certificates of Honor. In addition, he was awarded the badge "Excellent Health Worker", the medal "For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War", he was awarded the title of "Honored Doctor of the TSSR".

In an extract from the order for the Dermatovenerological Institute No. 389 dated December 30, 1957, the following is literally written: “In connection with the retirement of the head of the admission department of the institute G.N. Trozyants, from January 1, 1958, to be relieved of his post with the wishes of good health and many more years of life. Signature - Director of the Institute Rodyakin”. What could be better than this - in two lines gratitude to a person, a professional in his field for many years of selfless work for the benefit of the people and the republic.

For almost half a century, G. Trozyants devoted to serving his beloved cause - medicine. His scientific researches contributed to the formation of a considerable number of followers and students.
