The book “Turkmenistan is the country of health and happiness” dedicated to the large-scale changes in the national sports sphere, and the all-embracing work on popularization of sport, physical culture and the principles of healthy lifestyle, as well as promotion of the Olympic ideas implemented in the country on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov appeared in print. The book is published in the Turkmen, English and Russian languages.

The photos depicting the President of Turkmenistan, an ardent supporter and advocate of a healthy lifestyle, practicing various sports, including riding, cycle racing, motor racing, sprint, tennis, etc. vividly demonstrate the Turkmen leader’s personal example to the Turkmen youth and all people of Turkmenistan.

Within the last years the large-scale work has been done in the country to promote and develop the sports and health-improving sphere, and increase its multiaspect potential. The unprecedented in its scales, breadth and boldness of design project initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov – the Avaza National tourism zone is a bright result of developing the recreational potential of the country, creating the best conditions for healthy and active leisure, and popularizing water sports.

More and more Turkmen sportsmen take an active part in the world sports movement, Turkmenistan hosts the large-scale international events, including the Silk Road International Rally of the Dakar Series running on the territory of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Russia, the international football tournament for the Turkmenistan President's Cup, Central Asia Sambo Championships, etc. The modern sports complexes, stadiums, hippodromes, specialized sports school, etc. are built in the Turkmen capital and all regions of the country as well. The national equestrian games have gained popularity among the local people. Modern equestrian complexes were opened in all velayats of the country.

As is known, in accordance with the decision of the decision of theOlympic Council of Asia Ashgabat will host the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. An important factor for adopting this decision was a personal initiative role of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who identified the development of physical culture and sports as one of the priorities of the state policy of Turkmenistan.

That is vividly proved by the photo chronicle of the accomplishments and achievements, successes of Turkmenistan on the sports arena, in the sphere of development of sports infrastructure, a modern basis for training young Turkmen athletes and national teams, as well as in the sphere of education of younger generations.

National championships held annually among the teams of schools, universities, industries and regions in different sports will be a powerful incentive for the Turkmen youth along their way towards the health, physical and spiritual self-improvement. These competitions that involve in thousands of Turkmen citizens are held under the motto “Turkmenistan is a country of high spirit and health”. Today, this slogan has become the national idea of the country and its people.

This year, for the first time in the history of our country, the Week Health and Happiness was held throughout Turkmenistan on occasion of the World Health Day included into the register of the public holidays of Turkmenistan. A big section of the book describing the festive events and competitions in popular sports, intellectual and team games, including winter sports, is dedicated to the rich programme of the Week of Health and Happiness.

The first national hockey tournament for the Turkmenistan President's Cup aroused keen interest among the fans of this winter sport. The memorial photos from the ceremony of awarding of the prestigious trophy to the winner – Burgut team have been inscribed into the history of the Turkmen hockey.

The materials included into the book have clearly reflected that physical culture and sports activities in the country represent an organic combination of efforts of the state and society.
