Turkmen agricultural workers have gained an outstanding labour achievement – they have fulfilled their contractual obligations for the production of raw cotton and delivered about 1.11 million tons of ‘white gold’ to the ‘kharman’ of the Motherland! It is symbolic that another important agricultural campaign – winter wheat sowing – has finished on the same day.
A science conference was conducted at the Turkmen Agricultural University to mark the labour achievement of Turkmen farmers and citizens of the country. The forum brought together leading agrarian specialists, representatives of the research institutions, ministries and departments, foremost people in agriculture and teachers and students of the agricultural universities.
A large-scale exposition taken place within the framework o fthe conference showcased the achievements o fthe national agro-industrial complex. The conference agenda focused on the issues relating to priority areas of agricultural science, improvement of farming standards, enhancement of crop capacity, adoption of innovative farming techniques and seed growing technologies and efficient use of agricultural machinery and equipment.
The cotton industry vividly evidences the success of the ambitious reforms in the agro-industrial sector aimed at enhancing significantly its efficiency. Consistent measures have been taken to settle the accounts of agricultural producers in a timely manner and give citizens greater incentives to grow cotton. The provision on the remuneration of agricultural labour that has entered into force this year offers a powerful impetus to increase cotton production in the country. According to the provision, a 30% premium is to be paid for the work done above the plan to reap a harvest. The financial and economic leverage of the agricultural reform include the loans given to farmers associations to purchase agricultural equipment and cover the costs of agricultural production.
Well-coordinated efforts of all the elements in the labour-intensive process of ‘white gold’ growing, including tenant farmers, specialists of the Turkmenpagta State Concern and machine operators of the Turkmenobahyzmat Association, drivers of cars and trucks, specialists of the branches of Daikhanbank who ensured the payment to agricultural workers for cotton they had harvested, contributed to the labour achievement. An important role in the agricultural campaign is assigned to workers of cotton receiving stations and specialists of the Turkmenstandartlary State Service who control the quality of raw cotton. Having showed the remarkable results in the ‘white gold’ campaign, cotton growers are reaping a crop these days.
The processing enterprises – ginneries, cotton-spinning plants and textile factories picked up the baton. The drastic reforms, which, as everything going on in the epoch of might and happiness, are well thought-out, comprehensive, result-oriented and aimed at enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of the national economy, have been launched in this sphere.

A number of new enterprises were put into operation; a ginnery with the capacity of 40,000 tons a year is under construction in Kunya Urgench Etrap, Dashoguz Velayat.
