In connection with the discovery and development of the huge oil and gas bearing zone in the territory of Turkmenistan and with the view of uniting the Southern Yoloten-Osman, Minara and neighbouring fields, the Southern Yoloten-Osman, Minara and neighbouring fields, the Southern Yoloten-Osman, Minara and neighbouring fields will be referred to as the Galkynys field. The President of Turkmenistan issued the relevant Resolution during the recent meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers taking account of the request of Turkmen oil and gas, chemical and fishing industry workers.

As is known, reserves of the zone of the Southern Yoloten-Osman, Minara and Yashlar discovered in the east of the country are estimated nowadays at 26.2 trillion cubic metres and placed it the world’s second largest field. This data was confirmed by the result s of the independent audit conducted by the international consulting company Gaffney, Cline & Associates (UK). This fact vividly illustrates the tremendous energy potential of Turkmenistan.

In this oil and gas bearing zone exploration work and drilling operations and complementary research are currently carried out. These activities has provided new data and enabled to adjust the current estimates of reserves of these hydrocarbon deposits. Turkmen specialists have the information which allows asserting that natural gas reserves discovered in the Southern Yoloten-Osman field , Minara field and gas deposits explored in the neighbouring areas are a huge single gas field which will henceforth be called Galkynys.

The strategy for priority development of Turkmen fuel and energy sector is based on the proved and prospective hydrocarbon reserves in the territory of the country. In this regard Turkmenistan takes consistent steps to promote the energy policy which includes such critical aspects as boosting natural gas production, processing and export and diversifying energy transit to largest Eurasian markets where a steady growth of energy demand is observed.
