Turkmen cotton growers fulfilled their contractual obligations. They picked over 1.05 million tons of ‘white gold’.
This is another evidence for the success of the ongoing large-sale reforms in the agro-industrial sector. Effective steps are taken in the framework of the agricultural policy to develop the cotton industry through modernization of the sector and improvement of the management methods.
In accordance with the Resolution of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov starting from 2011 cotton growers in the country are allowed to sell fibre, lint and uluk after raw cotton picked in excess of the government order is processed. They can sell agricultural products by independently or though to domestic consumers or export abroad independently or via the Ak Altyn Trading Enterprise of the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange to consumers in the country and abroad or to the Turkmenpagta State Concern at a state purchasing price. This measure offers new incentives to increase labour productivity and stimulate farmers’ interest in reaping rich harvests.
This year over 550,000 hectares have been sown with this valuable industrial crop of such varieties as Yoloten-7, 133, 149F, C-4727, Dashoguz-120, Serdar and C-2606 (middle-stapled varieties), 9871-I, 9946-I, Yoloten-14, Yoloten-32 (fine-stapled varieties) that proved to be high-yielding in soil and climate conditions of different regions of the country.
High-powered John Deer and Case mechanical cotton harvesters and other equipment have been engaged in the cotton picking campaign. Maintenance and repair services were provided round-the-clock, and the favourable conditions for work and recreation of machine operators, drivers and farmers were created. Raw cotton was delivered each day to 157 receiving points from where it was delivered to 36 cotton-cleaning plants.
