A power station of the combined cycle that will allow not only to provide growing requirements of Mary province gas industry, but also to raise export possibilities of the country, will be constructed at the Mary hydropower station.
4 gas turbines with 257 megawatt capacity each and two steam turbines, approximately of the same capacity will be installed at the new power station. In gas turbines where high-pressure natural gas will be used as fuel, products having high kinetic energy are formed as a result of combustion. They are directed to working blades of the turbine, thus providing its rotation with the speed of 3 thousand revolutions per minute.
And if before combustion materials with 540-5900С temperature were thrown out in atmosphere, now they are discharged to waste-heat boiler (there are four of them) where received superheated vapor will rotate already steam turbines, and simultaneously a generator rotor, as a result of which the additional electric power is developed. Thus, on the one hand, there increases the power station coefficient of efficiency, and on the other hand - the smaller quantity of natural gas is used. In this case, the power station coefficient of efficiency will reach 57 percent, that is for 22 percent higher than that of gas turbines of a simple cycle. Use of the combined cycle on the power station will allow to save annually 1,1 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
There are also other advantages. For example, the temperature of combustion materials disposed to the atmosphere, will decrease from 5400С to 1000С, that is not less important from the ecological point of view. At the expense of fuel consumption reduction the quantity of combustion materials will decrease, and that will also lower the negative influence on the environment.
Within the years of independence, 2 thousand new 492.8 megawatt capacities were put into operation in Turkmenistan.
