Production of Turkmen winemakers was awarded with high prizes at International contest «Yalta. Golden Griffin – 2016»

202 types of production of 53 enterprises from seven countries were presented during contest held June 2 – 9 on the base of Russian National Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking under Russian Academy of Sciences. Turkmenistan presented 8 type of production and each of them were awarded with high prizes.

Tow “Grand prix” cup and six gold medals became visual evidence of high appraisal by competent jury of production of winemaking enterprises of State Association of Food Industry of Turkmenistan as well as its competitiveness in international market.

“President” VSOP (very special old premium) cognac of Ashgabat winery was awarded with “Grand Prix” cup for quality and diploma for best design during prestige international show of masters of “sunny beverages”. The second cup and diploma for design was awarded to white desert wine “Yasman – Salyk” of Gyoktepe winemaking enterprise.

Gold medals were honoured to strong vintage wine “Kopetdag” (it also received diploma for design) and desert wine “Shanly Diyar” of Abadan winemaking enterprise, “Galkan” vodka, and “Turkmen” bitter of Ashgabat winery, red desert wines “Gara Yzym” and liqueur “Turkmenistan” of Gyoktepe winemaking enterprise. Three leading winemaking plants out of seven in our country took part in the contest.

It worth reminding that Turkmenistan is traditionally among the winners of “Yalta. Golden Griffin” and other similar competitions in Moscow, Sankt-Petersburg, and France.

Numerous victories of our winemakers are not only result of skills of domestic producers but high quality of vine grapes grown in Turkmenistan because natural source material plays main role in maturing of fine bouquet and dainty taste of Turkmen beverages. That is why domestic wine producers share the success with hardworking viticulturists.


For example, “President” cognac made according to classic technology of local sorts of grapes such as “Terbash” and “Gara Yzyum”, which gave soft taste and golden tint to this high quality 8 year aged beverage. Range of vintage wines produced in our country is also expanded and while domestic kinds of wine grapes, distinguished by their high sugar content, are used for making desert and demi-doux wines, for dry wines, producers use “Rkaziteli”, “Saperavi”, “Cabernet”, “Bayan Shirey” successfully grown in Turkmen land. Good grape harvest is expected in this year what every time inspires wine producers to seek for new wonderful and original bouquets. Thus, there are one or two new sorts of wine introduced to production every year.

The “sun berry” is delivered to processing conveyor direct from vineyards while in most of other countries the material is turn into concentrate at first and then making wine of it. Thus, old traditions of Turkmen winemaking, brightly reaffirmed their advantages and capability in current age of modern technologies, are the reasons of success in Yalta.

There are many requests today from abroad for export of Turkmen wines. Due to this, big attention is paid to design of wine production what was specially made mention of by jury of Yalta contest. The perspectives of development of export direction of winemaking industry are large, considering existing interest in external markets and excellent quality of our wines recognized by competent international experts.

Irreplaceable component of Turkmen wine products is sun under which generous beams the vine grown in our land acquires its unique and deep taste and aged cognac – rich and delicate aroma. Garabekevul winery in Lebap is considered to be unique place for such concentration of “solar energy” in beverages kept in oak casks in open air.

The winemaking is one of directions in wide spectrum of activities of Sate Association of Food Industry of Turkmenistan, which enterprises produce hundreds of different food items. Owing to increase of production powers, the volumes of meat and dairy products grow every year and the assortment expands.

For example, livestock complex in etrap named after S.A. Niyazov opened in June 2014 with participation of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov produces 17 types of sausages and 22 types of diary items. Production of several types of new processed and rennet cheeses, fruit yogurts, which were never made in our country before, is mastered there. The work in this direction is continued, technical regulations for own food products are implemented.

Domestic food industry, while converting to fully automated production and robotization of technological lines, realizes sequentially and successfully the policy of import substitution. The capabilities of reconstructed enterprises in the structure of State Association, which expanded after modernization the range of products and variety of packing for convenience of buyers, are highly increased.

Provision of the population with purified drinking water is priority direction of activity of this organization. This task was given by the Head of the State as primary one and as one of key factors in health protection of people, especially with account of arid climate of our country.

As for today, State Association includes five plants of purification of water of high quality – one in Dashoguz, Lebap and Balkan velayats accordingly and two in Ashgabat. For example, the plant in Balkan velayat bottles 30 million litres of pure water daily. These enterprises use most advanced technologies of multiple filtration (approximately 10 filters)

“Archabil” water and productions of “Cheshme” enterprise are very popular among the consumers. Our specialists contend that purified drinking water produced in Turkmenistan excels in quality the water from other countries. This is stipulated by the standards of quality adopted in domestic production, which are higher than international standards by range of indicators.

Besides, production of soft beverages using local material as additives including licorice, camel thorn and other herbs, is steadily growing. The leading manufacturer of natural juices is “Ruhabelent” plant having its own plantations of tomato, apple, apricot gardens, pomegranate groves, etc.

Enterprises of State Association renew the variety of juices and drinks with original taste blends every year harmonically combining classics with exotic variations, offering consumers to try out and change their preferences and find something experimental. However, it still remains oriented to production of environmentally friendly and healthy products. All these give opportunity to domestic manufacturers to compete successfully with international brands and secure largest share of sales of refreshment beverages in local market.

Today, special emphasis is laid on establishment of large agricultural zones in every region of the country, construction of new mill and livestock complexes meeting new requirements, hothouse farms, plants and factories for wide range of food products – bakery, pasta, meat and dairy items, different types of oils, cheeses and sausages.
