The repertoire of the A.S. Pushkin State Russian Drama Theater will soon be enriched by another musical play about the life of modern Turkmen youth and, of course, about love. The performance touches on the problems between children and parents. Every parent dreams of marrying off their daughter to a responsible and well-off person, but as the story of the play "When the Young Soul Shines" shows, in real life these intentions do not always come true.
Bilbil Mamedov, the Honored Art Worker of Turkmenistan, wrote the play "When the Young Soul Shines" about 20 years ago. The play was successfully performed on the stages of many theaters in the country. This year, the creative team of the A.S. Pushkin Drama Theater became interested in this play.
Adapting the play for their audience was not easy. But this did not stop anyone: Maksat Hudaygulyyev, head of the literary department, took on the task of translating the play from Turkmen into Russian; the translation of the poems – of which there are quite a few in the play – was done by director Kiyas Gurbanov; the music for the poems was selected by musical arranger Begench Kakayev and actors Alina Andronova and Svyatoslav Lavin. Choreographer Maral Hemragulyeva, with the active participation of actor Andrey Pavlov, staged the dances with the characters of the play.
Set designer Vepa Annaberdiyev achieved great results. He was especially successful with the first scene depicting a construction site: cranes lifting heavy loads, workers focused on carrying construction materials – the atmosphere of a tense work moment is felt on stage.
A great success was the portrayal of the main heroine Maral by actress Lyubov Emelyanova, who managed to create a generalized image of a Turkmen girl – modest but principled. Congratulations are also well deserved by Anastasia Balandina, who played the role of Selbi eje. Both actresses presented their characters within the framework of Turkmen mentality. Andrey Pavlov also played his part excellently. Actor Magtymguly Gurbanov fit seamlessly into the role of Purli. It should be noted that the roles of enterprising tricksters are Magtymguly’s specialty.
There are so many songs and dances in the play that it can rightfully be called a musical. This adds lightness to the action of the play and lifts the spirits of the audience. The play "When the Young Soul Shines" looks as if the playwright wrote it yesterday. This is largely thanks to everyone who created the performance, especially director Kiyas Gurbanov.
On September 20, the audience will be able to see the premiere of the play "When the Young Soul Shines," rejoice in how the fate of the two lovers – Maral and Serdar – turned out, and also laugh at the tricks of the ever-creative Purli, without whom this story would hardly have a happy ending.
