Ambassador Ji Shumin: Visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen People to China Opened a New Chapter in Bilateral Relations

Ji Shumin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Turkmenistan, stated that China–Turkmenistan relations have reached the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership, and that the visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, the esteemed Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to Beijing has opened a new chapter in their development.

As the diplomat recalled, from March 17 to 19, at the invitation of the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, the esteemed Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, paid a friendly visit to China.

According to the Ambassador, he was the first foreign leader to visit China after the conclusion of the annual sessions of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, which are major events in the country’s socio-political life.

“The visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people to Beijing became an important step that, linking the past and the future, opened a new chapter in the development of bilateral relations. During the visit, President Xi Jinping held a warm and friendly meeting with Hero Arkadag. The sides conducted an in-depth exchange of views on strengthening relations and expanding practical cooperation across various fields. The leaders of the two countries reached broad consensus and gave a powerful impetus to further cooperation,” stated Ji Shumin.

The Ambassador gave a high assessment of the current state of relations, noting that the dynamics of China–Turkmenistan relations today serve as a model of political interaction.

“Political mutual trust between China and Turkmenistan continues to strengthen steadily. Friendly contacts between our peoples have deep historical roots. Our countries are good friends, good brothers, and good partners who treat each other with trust and mutual support. Over the 34 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China–Turkmenistan ties have maintained steady, sound, and stable development, reaching a new level of comprehensive strategic partnership,” emphasized Ji Shumin.
